Phase one of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Expressway fully operational, Saeed Ghani

Karachi : Sindh Local Government Minister, Saeed Ghani, has said that baseless and incorrect reports appeared in a section of the mainstream and social media about Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Expressway.

The Local Government Minister stated this on Tuesday while giving his statement on the floor of the Sindh Assembly as per its rule no 261. He said the Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Expressway was a beneficial project but certain elements didn’t like such mega uplift schemes built in the city. “Such elements shouldn’t mislead the masses,” said Ghani.

He said the first phase of the expressway, which was inaugurated by Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari last week was fully motorable for the people. He told the concerned lawmakers that he had inspected again the entire phase of the expressway the previous day and found that misleading posts about the project had been shared on social media.

The Local Government Minister informed the house that the newly inaugurated first phase of the expressway provided fast road connectivity from Qayyumabad to Shah Faisal Colony. He said the second phase of the project providing connectivity to the Quaidabad interchange would be completed by March this year. The final phase of the project, which would connect the expressway with the M-9 motorway would be completed by December this year, he said. He said that all the routes and interchanges on phase one of the expressway project were fully operational. He said that vehicular traffic was moving without any hinderance on the newly launched portion of the expressway and a large number of vehicles used the facility the previous night.

The Local Government Minister said that a misleading video clip was shared in a section of conventional and social media. He said the video clip in question showed a track leading to Quaidabad, which was still closed due to ongoing construction work on the incomplete portion of the project.

Ghani said that he found it necessary to give his statement on the floor of the house to let people know the factual position about the project. He said that certain elements had been displeased because of the road networks built by the PPP’s Sindh government as a gift for the people of Karachi. He appealed to such elements not to share misleading reports and video content on social media.
