Karachi: Sindh Labour and Human Resources Minister, Saeed Ghani, has said the Pakistan People’s Party has most emphatically raised its voice on the issues related to the population census in the country.
Ghani stated this while talking to media persons at a programme held to mark the eighth martyrdom anniversary of Akbar Nagori who was the brother of former provincial minister Jawed Nagori.

Ghani, who is also PPP Karachi President, recalled that the Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Murad Ali Shah, had objected to the results of the last census held in 2017 when MQM was a part of the federal cabinet and also approved the census results. The PPP at that had opposed the outcomes of the census, said Ghani.

He said that the way Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Jamaat-e-Islami, and Muttahida Quami Movement had objected to the census drive gave the impression that census activity was only happening in Sindh. “I want to ask them whether or not census is not taking place in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and Punjab,” said the Sindh Labour Minister.

He said that these political parties didn’t know that population of Balochistan had increased by 45 per cent in the latest census while the population count of Quetta had decreased. Similarly, the population of Lahore, Islamabad, and Faisalabad, had also decreased.

Answering a question, Ghani said the chief of JI Karachi, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, had been trying to assume the role of MQM founder Altaf Hussin in Karachi.

He advised the JI to formally declare if it had decided to become an ethnic political party after leaving its identity of being a religious party.

Speaking on the occasion, PPP Sindh President, Senator Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, said the Chairman of the PTI had disgraced the masses in the country by deciding to dissolve the provincial assemblies in Punjab and KPK.

He said the PTI leadership had committed contempt of the people’s mandate as had happened in the martial law regimes in the country.

Khuhro said it was the desire of the PPP that general elections should be held all over the country at once. He appealed to the apex judiciary to play its due role in ensuring that general polls should be held all over Pakistan at one time. He said the Election Commission of Pakistan was empowered to hold elections in the country. Khuhro said the act of the PTI Chairman to resign from the assemblies went against the interests of the country.

He said the leadership of the PPP and other allied parties had shown magnanimity to hold talks with the PTI so that elections should held in the country on the same day.
