Sindh cabinet has decided on minimum wages only for workers in three categories: Saeed Ghani

Karachi: Sindh Labour and Human Resources Minister, Saeed Ghani, has clarified that the latest decision of the Sindh cabinet to approve the minimum wages pertains to only three categories of workers for the last year.

In a video message issued on Wednesday, the Sindh Labour Minister said that the latest decision of the cabinet was in line with the last year’s decision to increase the minimum wage of non-skilled workers to Rs 25,000 per month.

He said it was wrong to assume that the Sindh cabinet in its latest meeting had increased the minimum monthly wage in the province from Rs 25,000 to Rs 26,000 per month.

The latest decision is for the semi-skilled, skilled, and highly skilled workers in the province. The cabinet has increased the minimum monthly wage of the semi-skilled worker to Rs 26,000 per month, that of skilled workers to Rs 31,961 and that the minimum salary of the highly skilled labourers has been increased to Rs 33,491. Last year the minimum salary of the workers falling in the non-skilled category was increased to Rs 25,000 while the minimum wages of the labourers in these three categories were not announced as the same decision had been taken by the cabinet in its latest meeting, said Ghani.

He said the Minimum Wage Board had started its work to propose a further increase in the minimum salaries of the workers in all these categories for the next financial year as the same decision would be announced soon.
