Karachi: Sindh Labour and Human Resources Minister, Saeed Ghani, has said that Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) would have stood nowhere in Karachi after the recent local government elections had Muttahida Quami Movement not boycotted the polls.
The Sindh Labour Minister stated this in a statement issued on Monday while showing a reaction to the letter sent by Jamaat-e-Islami chief Sirajul Haq to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
He said the demand of the JI chief that Karachi’s mayoral post should be given to his party didn’t have any principled basis.
Ghani made it clear that Pakistan People’s Party had secured votes in the latest local government elections in Karachi on basis of its performance without making any false promises. He said the PPP through its public service had won over the people of Karachi as the city’s mayoral post wouldn’t be given to anyone on a silver platter.
He predicted that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and JI wouldn’t secure any victory in the next elections to be held in Karachi. He lamented that after PTI the JI had attempted to blackmail ECP.
